What the EDRARXD1 is actually certified to remove
The OEM line carries NSF/ANSI 42 + 53, and the series also passes 401 Honest framing for buyers: compatibles split into 42-only (taste, chlorine, sediment) and 42+53 (adds tested lead and cyst reduction) — that second tier is the one worth paying for. Treat every claim as version-specific: NSF listings change with annual re-tests, so the certified-product database is the final word. The PFOA/PFOS claim also lives under NSF/ANSI 53 (P473 protocol) — 401 covers emerging compounds and pharmaceuticals, not PFAS.
Is EveryDrop Filter A the same as Filter 1?
Effectively yes. Filter A (EDRARXD1) was the first-generation name; the numbered Filter 1 (EDR1RXD1) took over the same bay and media. Filter 1 is the number still made, so it is the safer buy.
Does the EDRARXD1 have an RFID chip?
No. No cartridge in the EveryDrop line verifies electronically — the chip-locked refrigerator cartridge on the US market is GE's RPWFE, an entirely different brand family.
Can I still buy the EDRARXD1?
Listings for the A number are drying up because production moved to Filter 1. If a listing shows both numbers, buy on price — for this slot they are the same cartridge.
What claims should a compatible Filter A carry?
NSF/ANSI 42 + 53 is the honest target, matching the OEM series (which also passes 401). Compatibles advertising only 42 cover taste and chlorine, not tested lead or cyst reduction.
