Do KitchenAid refrigerators use Whirlpool filters?

Yes. Whirlpool manufactures KitchenAid refrigerators, and the water filtration is identical — EveryDrop Filter 1 through 6 bays appear across the KitchenAid range exactly as they do on Whirlpool-badged machines. There is no KitchenAid-specific cartridge; the KRF french-door fleet mostly runs Filter 5 (EDR5RXD1, 441 models in our library), with Filter 3 and Filter 4 bays on other chassis. Match by your KitchenAid model number and you’ll land on the same page a Whirlpool owner would.

Which filter does my KRF-series KitchenAid take?

The KRF (and KRM) french-door platforms predominantly use the EDR5RXD1 / Filter 5 bay — that’s 45% of the KitchenAid fleet in our library. But the KRF generation matters: earlier chassis used Filter 3 (EDR3RXD1) and the Maytag-derived units run Filter 4. The reliable answer is the model plate inside the compartment plus the finder — KitchenAid’s alphanumeric codes resolve cleanly because the K-prefix series map tightly to chassis families.

My KitchenAid dispenser stopped after I removed the filter — why?

You have a Filter 4 bay (EDR4RXD1 / UKF8001 family), and per Whirlpool-family documentation those machines dispense nothing unless a cartridge or the bypass cap is seated in the bay. The cap ships with the machine — check the owner’s packet or the area around the bay. This is by design on that bay generation, not a fault; other KitchenAid bays (Filter 1/5/6) don’t have the restriction. Keep the cap for future cartridge changes — it’s the difference between water and a dry kitchen while a delivery is in transit.

How often should a KitchenAid filter be changed?

EveryDrop’s standing rating applies: 200 gallons or 6 months, whichever comes first. KitchenAid panels count elapsed time since the last reset — they cannot sense media condition. On a busy KRF with the ice maker running daily, five months is a more honest ceiling; chlorine returning to the ice is the tell. A 3-pack on subscription matches the cycle one cartridge at a time.

Are "Maytag UKF8001" and KitchenAid Filter 4 the same part?

Yes — UKF8001 is the original Maytag-family number that the EveryDrop Filter 4 (EDR4RXD1) line absorbed, and the bay appears on Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air and Amana chassis built on the same Whirlpool platforms. UKF8001, UKF8001AXX, Pur 4396395 and Kenmore 46-9006 all resolve to the same cartridge. If your KitchenAid’s paperwork cites any of those numbers, the current part is EDR4RXD1 — and remember that bay’s bypass-cap quirk when you swap.
