Kenmore Refrigerator Water Filters — Every Model, Every Prefix
Kenmore is not a manufacturer — it is the Sears house brand, and its refrigerators were built by several different factories over the decades: Whirlpool, GE, LG, and the Frigidaire/Electrolux family That is why two Kenmore fridges of the same vintage can take completely different filters.

Kenmore Model-Prefix Router — Who Actually Built Your Fridge
Sears bought its refrigerators from several factories over the decades, and the first three digits of the model number identify which one built yours. That prefix — not the Kenmore name — decides which filter family fits:

|---|---|---|---|---|
| 106 | Whirlpool | EveryDrop 1/2/3/5/6 | 9081 · 9082 · 9083 · 9085 · 9915 | CF-2008 · CF-2007 |

Kenmore refrigerator filter questions, answered
They identify the factory that built the unit for Sears. 106 = Whirlpool, 795 = LG, 363 = GE, 253 = Frigidaire/Electrolux, 596 = Maytag/Amana. The prefix decides which OEM filter family fits — see the routing table above.
Because Sears did not build refrigerators. The unit on your kitchen floor was made by an OEM, and the filter follows that OEM’s slot system. The ClearFit cross-reference for each family fits exactly the same slot as the cartridge Sears sold.
It still works — 9081/9084/9690-style numbers are listed on every fit page as aliases — but the surviving catalog uses the OEM numbers (EDR4RXD1, LT700P, MWF, ULTRAWF). Searching either lands on the same cartridge.
On most units the rating plate is inside the refrigerator compartment — left wall near the crisper drawers, behind the lower kickplate, or on the door frame where the doors close against the cabinet. Use the full model string, not the serial number, when looking up filters.
Yes — if the cartridge in your Kenmore still has its part number printed on it (or the old one is in the cupboard), search that number directly. Fit pages list the OEM part number, its aliases, and the ClearFit cross-reference side by side.
