The short answer on the EDRARXD1

EDRARXD1 is the cartridge Whirlpool launched as EveryDrop Filter A — the lettered first generation of the EveryDrop retail line. When the program moved to numbered filters, the A cartridge was absorbed into the Filter 1 position, and EDR1RXD1 became the number that stayed in production. It carries 42+53+401 (series claim). Path: EDRARXD1 (Filter A) superseded by EDR1RXD1 (Filter 1).

Cross-checked fit coverage: 108 refrigerator models in the library behind this site. Install time: 5 minutes, no tools. A plate or manual that says Filter A and one that says Filter 1 point at the same push-in bay; if both numbers appear on a marketplace listing, they are interchangeable for this slot.

What an EDRARXD1 should cost

We do not print an OEM list price for the EDRARXD1 — our price file has no captured listing for it, and a guessed anchor is worse than none. Check the manufacturer's own parts store for the genuine price; third-party compatibles cluster at $8–15 per cartridge (mostly NSF/ANSI 42 only) with a premium 42+53 tier above them.

ClearFit pricing is published per SKU once the product line goes live — no placeholder prices on this page.

Swap it in 5 minutes

Installing the EDRARXD1 Water Filter water filter
  • Press the release tab and draw the spent cartridge straight down and out — a couple of drips is normal.
  • Match the new cartridge's keying to the slot; it seats in only one orientation.
  • Push until the latch catches with a click.
  • Flush 1–2 gallons through the dispenser to clear carbon fines, then hold filter reset until the light goes out.

What the EDRARXD1 is actually certified to remove

Old cartridge vs new — when to swap

The OEM line carries NSF/ANSI 42 + 53, and the series also passes 401 Honest framing for buyers: compatibles split into 42-only (taste, chlorine, sediment) and 42+53 (adds tested lead and cyst reduction) — that second tier is the one worth paying for. Treat every claim as version-specific: NSF listings change with annual re-tests, so the certified-product database is the final word. The PFOA/PFOS claim also lives under NSF/ANSI 53 (P473 protocol) — 401 covers emerging compounds and pharmaceuticals, not PFAS.

Is EveryDrop Filter A the same as Filter 1?

Effectively yes. Filter A (EDRARXD1) was the first-generation name; the numbered Filter 1 (EDR1RXD1) took over the same bay and media. Filter 1 is the number still made, so it is the safer buy.

Does the EDRARXD1 have an RFID chip?

No. No cartridge in the EveryDrop line verifies electronically — the chip-locked refrigerator cartridge on the US market is GE's RPWFE, an entirely different brand family.

Can I still buy the EDRARXD1?

Listings for the A number are drying up because production moved to Filter 1. If a listing shows both numbers, buy on price — for this slot they are the same cartridge.

What claims should a compatible Filter A carry?

NSF/ANSI 42 + 53 is the honest target, matching the OEM series (which also passes 401). Compatibles advertising only 42 cover taste and chlorine, not tested lead or cyst reduction.
