Frigidaire Refrigerator Water Filters

Frigidaire filter confusion usually comes down to one question: PureSource cartridge or ULTRAWF top-load bay? The push-in PureSource 2 (WF2CB) covers 3,933 models in our fit library; the quarter-twist ULTRAWF above it in the cabinet covers another 836. The table below separates them at a glance.

Frigidaire has been part of Electrolux since 1986, and Electrolux-badged machines (692 models in the library) use the identical WF2CB bay — same cartridge, different badge. The older WFCB and WF3CB lines still run in side-by-side and Gallery machines, and the EPTWFU01 sits in Professional-series housing. One habit worth keeping: Frigidaire bays ship with a bypass plug, and it’s the thing to reach for when you want water while a delivery is in transit — losing it means no dispensing at all.

Same machine, different badge: Electrolux, Gibson, Kelvinator, Westinghouse and Crosley refrigerators on this parts platform use identical bays — search either badge in the model finder.

Know the model number, not the series?

The series cards above cover the best-documented machines. The other 7,577 Frigidaire-family models in our fit library live in the model-number browser — including Electrolux, Crosley and Gibson badges on the same platforms.
Not listed yet? The full by-model-number browser covers all 7,577. If your door badge says Electrolux, start with the WF2CB rows — 692 of 702 Electrolux models in the library map to PureSource 2.

Frigidaire filter FAQ

Which water filter does my Frigidaire use?
Location is the fastest tell. A cartridge sliding into the front grille or upper cabinet is the PureSource family — WF2CB on most machines built after 2004, WFCB on older side-by-sides, WF3CB on specific Gallery platforms. A bay you load from the top of the cabinet with a quarter-twist is the ULTRAWF. The Professional series uses the EPTWFU01 housing. 7,577 Frigidaire-family models are mapped in our fit library; type your model number for an exact match.
Are Electrolux and Frigidaire filters the same?
For refrigerators sold in North America, essentially yes — Electrolux is Frigidaire’s parent company and the Electrolux-badged machines are built on Frigidaire platforms. In our fit library, 692 of 702 Electrolux-badge models take the WF2CB PureSource 2 cartridge, the same one their Frigidaire twins use. The practical rule: match by refrigerator model, not by door badge. A few imported Electrolux models use the EWF02 cartridge, which is why the model-number check matters.
What does the Frigidaire bypass plug do?
It takes the cartridge bay out of the water path so the fridge keeps dispensing with no filter installed. That matters in two situations: while you wait for a replacement cartridge, and when you’d rather run unfiltered than lose water access (some households on pre-filtered supply do this permanently). Frigidaire ships the plug with the machine — usually clipped near the bay or in the owner’s packet. Without a cartridge or the plug seated, most Frigidaire bays dispense nothing at all. If you’ve lost yours, it’s a cheap parts-order item; note that water run through the plug is unfiltered.
How often should a Frigidaire filter be changed?
Frigidaire rates the PureSource 2 and ULTRAWF cartridges at about 6 months of typical household use; the panel reminder counts down on the calendar, not on actual gallons. Households that run the ice maker hard or live on well water should treat 5 months as the ceiling — carbon exhaust shows up first as chlorine taste in the ice, before the light says anything. Swapping on a fixed date (or on subscription) beats trusting the countdown.
My paperwork lists WF1CB or another old number — what replaced it?
The PureSource line consolidated over the years: the original WF1CB single-stage cartridge family was superseded within the WFCB line, and machines built from the mid-2000s onward standardized on the WF2CB. But same-name generations aren’t automatically cross-compatible — a WFCB bay will not take a WF2CB cartridge, and vice versa. The safe path is searching by refrigerator model number rather than the old part code; the fit library maps 7,577 Frigidaire-family models to the cartridge that actually seats.
